Jordan Meyer
Drug & Alcohol Prevention Speaker
Turning Pain into Purpose – Prevention and Mental Health
Jordan Meyer stands as one of TEEN TRUTH’s most powerful prevention and mental health speakers, bringing real stories, raw emotion, and trauma-informed insight to schools nationwide. His story isn’t just about survival — it’s about redemption, hope, and the power of choice. Jordan helps students understand the emotional roots of addiction and gives them the tools to make stronger, healthier decisions for their future.
As a drug prevention speaker and trauma counselor, Jordan shares a deeply personal journey that explores the connection between pain, relief, and recovery. His message helps students recognize that substance use — whether it’s drugs, alcohol, vaping, or opioids — isn’t about bad behavior, it’s about unmet needs and misunderstood emotions. Through his storytelling, he empowers teens to address what’s underneath the surface and to see that healing and growth are always possible.
BE THE DIFFERENCE
“Jordan gave an incredible motivational speech to our middle and high school students on the importance of making positive choices!”
TELL YOUR TRUTH
A Story of Resilience and Recovery
Jordan Meyer, MA, CMHC, CCTP, EMDR-C
At 16, Jordan Meyer was a rising star athlete with college scholarships in hand and a future filled with promise. But after a devastating accident left him paralyzed, everything changed. The physical trauma was brutal, but the emotional and psychological fallout ran even deeper.
Then came the phone calls. “Hello, Mr. Meyer, this is Coach so-and-so from Arizona State. We heard about your accident. Unfortunately, your scholarship was conditional on your ability to play football.” Calls from Colorado State, Texas, Nebraska, Stanford, and more soon followed.
But luckily, that’s not how his story ends.
During his long recovery, Jordan became dependent on prescription opioids — desperate not to get high, but simply to escape the overwhelming pain, both physical and emotional. One moment stands out: screaming through tears at his father for withholding his pain pills, only to hear his dad whisper, “I’m not going to let you do this. You mean too much to me.”
That moment marked a turning point. With the help of his family, friends, and dedicated counselors, Jordan began the long process of learning how to manage his medications, rebuild trust, and heal both body and mind. His struggle taught him a hard but vital truth: addiction isn’t always about rebellion — it’s often about relief. And no one is immune.
Eventually, Jordan learned to walk again and even managed to cross the stage at his high school graduation. Yet, in many ways, he is still healing. Amid the darkness, his mother’s unwavering love and support ignited a spark of hope within him. Through her encouragement, Jordan found the strength to redefine his identity and embark on a journey of resilience, faith, and self-discovery.
Determined to turn his pain into purpose, Jordan pursued a master’s degree in counseling and is currently earning his Ph.D. in performance psychology. He also holds a special degree in addiction counseling, blending lived experience with cutting-edge research to connect with students on a deeper level. His work focuses on helping teens understand the link between trauma, dopamine, and the false escape that drugs promise — but never deliver.
Now a nationally recognized trauma therapist and speaker, Jordan challenges the outdated “drugs are bad” message with a bold, trauma-informed truth. His goal isn’t to scare students straight — it’s to educate and empower them. He believes that when young people understand how their brains and emotions work, they can make stronger, healthier choices for their future.
Today, Jordan stands as a beacon of hope and inspiration, dedicated to sharing his story with schools and teenagers across the nation. He speaks passionately about overcoming adversity, finding hope in the face of trials, and embracing a new identity beyond unforeseen challenges.
Through his talks, Jordan encourages teens to find the light within themselves, even in the darkest of times, and to believe in the possibility of a brighter future. In his work, he has discovered that every student wants to feel loved, to matter, and to belong.
He currently serves as TEEN TRUTH’s Best Mental Health Speaker and is a CMHC / CCTP offering counseling services in the Salt Lake City area of Utah.
