On April 29, 2016 TEEN TRUTH and Special Olympics Texas will partner together in Abilene, TX to offer another UNIFIED DIFFERENCE MAKER SUMMIT. The summit is designed to bring special education and general education students together into one, big leadership event. This workshop features student filmed content from TEEN TRUTH, inspirational messaging from JC Pohl, and inclusive school leadership guidance from SOTX’s Martha Dorow.
ESC XIV has graciously donated meeting space, and the Abilene Community Foundation as well as the SOTX Meet in the Middle Program have provided generous funding for the event. With this support, we are proud to offer this life-changing event to Abilene area middle school and high school aged youth for a low price of just $10 per student.
Martha Dorow, Director of Youth Initiatives for SOTX, had this to say about the opportunity, “The UDMS provides an excellent opportunity for us to deepen and expand the presence of Unified programs in Abilene. Our hope is that these Unified student leaders will return to their schools ready to spread the word, lead by example, and make theirs a campus where each person feels valued and included!”
This TEEN TRUTH inspired event will empower student voice, and provide a roadmap to build a more inclusive culture on campus.
“Having spoken at several UDMS events across Texas, I can see the magic that happens when special ed and general ed students are pulled together into this type of event,” said TEEN TRUTH’s CEO, JC Pohl, “Leadership is not just about student council or honors society, it is also about taking an inclusive approach that is focused on making sure that everyone has a voice as we work to make a difference on campus.”
